Marie von Clausewitz (née von Brühl)
(1779-1836)
Behind every great man there's a great woman. Clausewitz's
ambitious romance with Marie von Brühl, whose family and social position
far outshone Clausewitz's, led to marriage and to a famous intellectual
partnership crucial to the evolution of On War. After her husband's
death in 1831, Marie edited the book and wrote a preface to it.
