Prussia before Jena/Auerstadt (1805)

Prussia after its defeat by Napoleon

NOTE: Prussia is the territory in purple. Note that before the Battle of Jena Prussia consisted of many discontiguous territories, most of which were taken away in the peace settlement. In the laft-hand map, the heavy black border marks the extent of the Holy Roman Empire, to which only parts of Prussia belonged. Napoleon dissolved the Empire in 1806, replacing it with a new confederation that excluded both Prussia and Austria.
